Not to be confused with the River Avon which is located in Wiltshire, the south of England. This is the Avon River. Located in central Christchurch, Canterbury in the south island of New Zealand.
The river was actually named after the Avon River in Scotland. The Deans brothers, one of the early European settlers in the area requested the name in honour of their grandfatherβs farm in Ayshire hills, Scotland.
The river banks are lined by urban parks. With plenty of greenery punting on the Avon is a relaxing activity to enjoy the views of Christchurch from a different perspective.
The green stripes on the facade of the wooden boat sheds are not only photogenic but give them their distinctive look. The punters with their straw hats, suspenders and chino trousers create somewhat an Oxford-ish feel.
